To refresh knowledge and understanding in the following areas:

  • A basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and responsibilities as a Crane Supervisor.
  • Explain the importance of locating and identifying different types of lifting equipment and lifting accessories. Explain their basic construction, uses, applications and functions.
  • Demonstrate how to interpret and extract information on all relevant documentation.
  • Explain and demonstrate diverse types of communication methods used for lifting purposes.
  • Explain procedures for placing non-serviceable items out-of-service.
  • Explain the function and use of the RCIs and Anti-Collision systems and use the information provided.
  • Explain setting up, erection, levelling and dismantling requirements for diverse types or lifting equipment and lifts. 
  • Set up exclusion zone explaining actions required for emergency actions and identify overhead hazards.
  • Identify potential hazards and unsafe lifting practices using different lifting scenarios.
  • Explain the importance of checking the security of various types of loads and lifting accessories, explain the procedures ensuring load balance and integrity.
  • Supervise the movement of loads to different types of locations using different methods of communication.
  • Explain all environmental considerations and explain how factors such as the external area to the lift zone can affect the planning of the lifting operation.
  • Carry out all out-of-service securing procedures.

Pre-requisites

Candidates must have a current Crane Supervisor certificate and be able to provide proof of this prior to course commencement.


 
What To Expect

This course is designed refresh candidate’s theoretical and practical skills to enable them to safely supervise lifts.

NPORS Traditional Route - The card will last for 3 years. An NVQ is not required. The CITB Health, Safety & Environment touch screen test is not a prerequisite.

NPORS CSCS Route - Delegates will receive a red card, carrying the CSCS Logo, which is valid for 2 years. If you complete your NVQ within this time a blue card is issued which then lasts 5 years. Delegates must also have completed the CITB Health, Safety & Environment touch screen test within 2 years prior to the course. If you require the CITB Health, Safety & Environment touch screen test please let us know and we can arrange this for you. If an NVQ has already been completed, please let us know and you will receive a blue card lasting 5 years.

Materials Required

We automatically apply for NPORS cards that expire by category. If you require a card that expires by card, please contact us to discuss. 

Candidates must hold an in-date certificate and be able to provide proof of this prior to course commencement.

Candidates are required to bring paper and a pen to make notes during their training.

All candidates must bring with them one of the following forms of ID:

  • A valid passport – no more than 6 months out of date
  • A valid UK photo driving license - no more than 6 months out of date
  • A photographic employee ID card 
  • A photographic ID card from an awarding body (e.g. IPAF, RTITB, NPORS)

If you do not have any of the above, please contact us for further information.

If this course is eligible for a short course grant, please ensure we have your levy number before the course start date, and your candidates provide their national insurance numbers on the day of the course. Without this information, we cannot claim the levy on your behalf and take no responsibility for the grant not being claimed.
