Google Map of the VenueThe aim of this regulated qualification is to provide individuals with knowledge of the basic food safety practices which are essential in a retail environment. The hazards and controls in this type of environment differ from those found in catering, but are no less important.
Achievement of this qualification will enable learners to identify how to make changes to practices, in order to maintain and improve the safety of food for the final consumer.
This Ofqual-approved qualification has been developed specifically for insertion into the Regulated Qualifications Framework, with full support from Skillsmart Retail, the Sector Skills Council for Retail. It is therefore fully compliant with industry and regulatory standards, as well as being recognised by environmental health practitioners, auditors and other enforcement officers.
This qualification is achieved by taking a one day classroom based course.

We are situated just outside Sywell Aerodrome located on the edge of Sywell village in Northamptonshire, 4 miles from the centre of Wellingborough and 10 miles from the centre of Northampton. Sywell is no more than an hour away from Coventry, Milton Keynes, Bedford and Cambridge and can be reached either by the A43 Northampton to Kettering Road or from the A509 in Wellingborough. In either case, follow signs for Sywell Aerodrome. Once you reach the Aerodrome, please do not go through the main gate, as we are located outside of this and just to the left. The qualification is designed principally for those who work in, or intend to work in, a retail environment where both packaged and/or open foods are available. It is also appropriate for people providing a service, for example delivery drivers and home delivery employees.

Topics covered include: Microbiological hazards (bacteria) Spoilage and preservation Food poisoning and its control Contamination hazards and controls Food handlers and personal hygiene Food premises and equipment Food pests and control Cleaning and disinfection HACCP from purchase to service Food safety and law enforcement
It is assessed by a multiple-choice examination, where the candidates must answer atleast 12 out of 20 questions correctly. The examination will take a maximum of 45 minutes to complete.
