These include the main characteristics of the Private Security Industry, the importance of safe working practices to comply with legal requirements, the role and objectives of a door supervisor, powers of arrest relevant to a door supervisor, how to recognise, assess and reduce risk in conflict situations, good practice to follow after conflict situations, physical interventions and the implications of their use and the use non-aggressive physical skills to protect yourself and others.
Assessment method
Unit 1 - Principles of working in the private security industry
- 70-question multiple-choice examination paper.
- Successful candidates must achieve a score of at least 49 out of 70.
- Examination duration – 105 minutes..

Unit 2 - Principles of working as a door supervisor in the private security industry
- 50-question multiple-choice examination paper.
- Successful candidates must achieve a score of at least 35 out of 50.
- Examination duration – 75 minutes.
- Guided learning hours for this unit are 11 hours.
Unit 3 - Application of conflict management in the private security industry
- 20-question multiple-choice examination paper.
- Successful candidates must achieve a score of at least 14 out of 20.
- Examination duration – 30 minutes.
- Guided learning hours for this unit are 11 hours
Unit 4 - Application of physical intervention skills in the private security industry
- Ongoing practical assessment throughout the course by the tutor.
- A 30 question multiple-choice examination paper.
- Successful candidates must achieve a score of at least 24 out of 30.
- Guided learning hours for this unit are 15 hours
This qualification is suitable for learners over the age of 18.
The SIA now require all new applicants to hold a one day First Aid qualification. This is delivered as standard on day one of the course for all delegates.
How long will it take?
It is delivered over 7 days including a first aid qualification on day one, with a large amount of pre-course reading and written tasks to complete. Full details will be sent out to you.
This qualification can enable the learner to progress onto the NVQ in Providing Security Services or undertake further learning in other areas of the private security industry such as CCTV Operations.
Upon successful completion of this course you will then need to apply to the SIA for a licence at an additional cost of £190.

We are situated just outside Sywell Aerodrome located on the edge of Sywell village in Northamptonshire, 4 miles from the centre of Wellingborough and 10 miles from the centre of Northampton. Sywell is no more than an hour away from Coventry, Milton Keynes, Bedford and Cambridge and can be reached either by the A43 Northampton to Kettering Road or from the A509 in Wellingborough. In either case, follow signs for Sywell Aerodrome. Once you reach the Aerodrome, please do not go through the main gate, as we are located outside of this and just to the left. To register for this qualification, learners are required to meet the following entry requirements: Age Ranges This qualification is approved for delivery to learners aged 18 and over. Language pre-requisite Security operatives are likely, in the course of their work, to be required to make calls to the emergency services, and communicate clearly to resolve conflict. It is therefore essential that security operatives are able to communicate clearly. It is the centre’s responsibility to ensure that each learner is sufficiently competent in the use of the English and/or Welsh language. All assessment must be conducted in the medium of English and/or Welsh, as appropriate. Centres must ensure that learners have sufficient language skills before putting the learners forward for assessment. As a guide, learners should, as a minimum, have language skills equivalent to the following: ï‚· a B1 level qualification on the Home Office’s list of recognised English tests and qualifications ï‚· an ESOL qualification at Entry - Level 3 on the Ofqual register taken in England, Wales or Northern Ireland ï‚· an ESOL qualification at Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework level 5 awarded by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) and taken in Scotland ï‚· Functional Skills Level 1 in English ï‚· SQA Core Skills in Communication at Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework level 5 ï‚· Essential Skills Wales Communication Level 1
