Anyone who holds a CPCS blue competent operator card which needs to be renewed.

On completion of this test, candidates will receive a score report confirming if they have passed or failed.

5 Years

Candidates must hold a Health and Safety Environment Test. This must have been passed within the last 2 years.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate on-going operating experience through having 300 hours in their CPCS log book.

The CPCS renewal test helps to ensure that key knowledge of each plant category or group of categories is maintained, in order to renew a CPCS competent operator (blue) card. 

The CPCS renewal test is split into test modules. Each module has 15 randomly selected multiple choice questions, which need to be answered within 15 minutes. Each module is CPCS plant specific and the questions are based on a range of topics and key knowledge expected of experienced plant operators and have been devised through consultation with plant-based employers and health and safety related data. 

Different modules have been developed to meet the demands of different types of construction plant and trades. Modules are available for each category of plant or for a group of similar categories. You will need to make sure that you take and prepare for the right one(s).

Theoretical Test/s.

To renew a CPCS Blue Competent Operator card, an operator is required to:

1. Hold a CPCS Blue Competent Operator Card for the category which is within five years of expiry date. (Please refer to the Scheme Booklet for Operators for further details on the rules for expired cards).

2. Pass the CITB Health, safety and environment test (within two years of application receipt).

3. Pass the CPCS Renewal test for each category of plant being renewed (within two years of application receipt).

AND

4. Demonstrate on-going practical operating experience through a choice of routes:
         - Logbook.
         - On-Site Assessment.
         - CPCS Practical Test.
         - SVQ or NVQ.
