Those at work that require an understanding of the hazards associated with manual handling and how these can best be avoided.

Candidates will receive an Expedient certificate in Principles of Manual Handling.

Language - this course is delivered in English so all candidates must be able to read and write in English.

Note, all learners partaking in Unit 4 must be free from injury and able/willing to partake in the practical. They must complete the Medical/Fitness Questionnaire to partake in the practical manual handling activity.

The aim of this course is to introduce learners to manual handling activities required for those starting work, returning to work or who need specific training in manual handling, as well as being a suitable course for refresher training. Learners gaining this award will understand that manual handling must be carried out correctly and will recognise its importance in ensuring a safer working environment. 

If required, the programme can also include practical training to support the efficient and safe manual handling of loads including the use of lifting aids.

• Classroom based.
• 10 multiple choice questions.
• Duration 30 mins - pass mark 70%
• Candidates are NOT permitted to use the candidate course handout during the exam. 
• Unit 4 (if selected) - Practical manual handling tasks.

Candidates are required to bring paper and a pen to make notes during their training.

All candidates must bring with them one of the following forms of ID:

• A valid passport – no more than 6 months out of date
• A valid UK photo driving license - no more than 6 months out of date
• A photographic employee ID card 
• A photographic ID card from an awarding body (e.g. IPAF, RTITB, NPORS)
