- A basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and responsibilities as Slinger Signaller.
- Be able to conform to manufacturers requirements as per technical data, conform to relevant regulations and legislation.
- Be able to locate, identify and explain different types of lifting equipment and lifting accessories. Explain their basic construction, uses, applications and their functions.
- Be able to interpret and extract information on all relevant documentation.
- Undertake all pre-use checks on non-specialist lifting accessories and identify non-serviceable items.
- Explain procedures for placing non-serviceable items out-of-service.
- Identify and explain centres of gravity and calculate estimated weights of loads.
- Set up exclusion zone explaining actions required for emergency actions, identifying any overhead hazards.
- Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for Slinger/Signaller use.
- Secure various types of loads to a hook using the relevant lifting accessories and procedures ensuring load balance, security and integrity.
- Direct and guide the movements of loads to different types of location using different methods of communication.
- Environmental considerations.
- Carry out all out-of-service and securing procedures.

We have a catering van which visits our premises and there are several other facilities close by where food and drinks can be purchased. A refrigerator and a microwave are available for use in our canteen.
We have free onsite parking where a Reverse Park Policy is in place. Please note it is mandatory for you to adhere to this policy if using our parking facilities.
Any experienced Slinger Signallers who would like to renew their certification.
On successful completion of this course, candidates will receive an NPORS card.
5 Years
Candidates must have a current Slinger Signaller certificate and be able to provide proof of this prior to course commencement.
This course is designed to refresh candidates theoretical and practical skills to enable them to safely conduct Slinger Signaller duties.
NPORS Traditional Route - The card will last for 3 years. An NVQ is not required. The CITB Health, Safety & Environment touch screen test is not a prerequisite.
NPORS CSCS Route - Delegates will receive a red card, carrying the CSCS Logo, which is valid for 2 years. If you complete your NVQ within this time a blue card is issued which then lasts 5 years. Delegates must also have completed the CITB Health, Safety & Environment touch screen test within 2 years prior to the course. If you require the CITB Health, Safety & Environment touch screen test please let us know and we can arrange this for you. If an NVQ has already been completed, please let us know and you will receive a blue card lasting 5 years

We automatically apply for NPORS cards that expire by category. If you require a card that expires by card, please contact us to discuss.
Candidates must hold in-date Slinger Signaller certification and be able to provide proof of this prior to the course start date.
Candidates are required to bring paper and a pen to make notes during their training.
All candidates must bring with them one of the following forms of ID:
- A valid passport – no more than 6 months out of date
- A valid UK photo driving license - no more than 6 months out of date
- A photographic employee ID card
- A photographic ID card from an awarding body (e.g. IPAF, RTITB, NPORS)
If you do not have any of the above, please contact us for further information.
If this course is eligible for a short course grant, please ensure we have your levy number before the course start date, and your candidates provide their national insurance numbers on the day of the course. Without this information, we cannot claim the levy on your behalf and take no responsibility for the grant not being claimed.
