- Increasing awareness of the nature and properties of asbestos and its effect on health, including the increased risk of lung cancer for asbestos workers who smoke
- Familiarisation with types, uses and likely occurrences of asbestos in buildings and where appropriate items of plant
- Where to obtain information on asbestos prior to commencing work
- What to do if suspicious material are found
- How to use work place precautions, including risk assessment process or seek advice on workplace precautions, in respect of the risks of asbestos
- Undertake work activities in a safe manner and without risk to themselves or others
- Awareness of asbestos regulations and how they fit into the broader context of health and safety legislation
- Procedures to follow when coming into unintentional contact with ACMs and an understanding of the appropriate emergency arrangements

We have a catering van which visits our premises and there are several other facilities close by where food and drinks can be purchased. A refrigerator and a microwave is available for use in our canteen.
Anyone who may come across asbestos in their day to day work such as people working in the construction, demolition, maintenance industries. Professions may include but not limited to joiners, roofers, painters and decorators, architects and shop fitters.
Upon successful completion of this course, candidates will receive a UKATA certificate.

To provide an awareness and develop the knowledge amongst employees as regards the hazards and risks posed by asbestos containing materials (ACM). The course further gives an overview of the legislative measures in place to permit employees to safeguard themselves and others affected by work activities.
Theoretical training and assessment.
Candidates are required to bring paper and a pen to make notes during their training.
All candidates must bring with them one of the following forms of ID:
- A valid passport – no more than 6 months out of date
- A valid UK photo driving license - no more than 6 months out of date
- A photographic employee ID card
- A photographic ID card from an awarding body (e.g. IPAF, RTITB, NPORS)
